Daily Readings, Day 1

Daily Readings, Day 1

By Luke Dahlenburg

Read Exodus 1:8-22

Living for God is not always easy. Why? It’s the exact opposite of the Australian mantra that says, “You do you.” Christianity has a very different outlook on life. It says find the glory and pleasure you crave in God. It says lay down your life for an eternal purpose. And it says that your authentic self can be found when we know and follow our God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Today, explore two women who lived in a hostile world, but had their fear and faith in the right place.

  • What are the words and phrases the show the suffering of God’s people and the evil of Pharaoh?
  • We never learnt the name of this Pharaoh even though he ruled the mightiest nation of the day. Yet, 35 centuries after this we still know the names of the midwives – Shiphrah and Puah. Why? How did the midwives view God and what did God do in response?
  • What do we learn about God, and living for God, from these events?

Prayer: Thank God that he rewards those who fear him – if not in this life, then certainly in the next (Luke 18:28–30). Ask for courage to obey his word, especially the under pressure.
